This course will help students work on ALL types of creative writing — short stories, novels, comics and graphic novels, scripts, poetry, blogging, creative non-fiction (journalism, essays, magazine writing, memoir, journaling, podcasting) — and more. The common element to all creative writing is narrative: we will talk about the elements of narrative (time, voice, theme, plot, characters, conflict) and both conventional and unconventional narratives including tiny stories, metanarrative, “choose your own adventure”, and hypertext fiction. Students may bring a work in progress, or not! Participants should expect daily writing prompts and exercises and be willing to share their work in progress in writing workshops with fellow students. No required texts.
